PAHS participated in Menlo Park’s Connoisseur’s Marketplace

August 20, 2008Throughout the summer, PAHS participated in Menlo Park’s Connoisseur’s Marketplace, Palo Alto’s Festival of the Arts, and three summer “Healthy Communities” Block Parties in down town Menlo. At the August 20 party, filmmaker Joe Camp and canine superstar Benji joined PAHS to introduce Joe’s film Benji Off the Leash at our first-ever Film In The Park, called Benji Under the Stars. Families and neighborhood friends and their dogs joined us for this fun-filled evening.

To highlight our centennial year, Joe Camp and Benji enthusiastically contributed their time also to a series of events in support of the Palo Alto Humane Society. Joe spoke at a PAHS fundraiser brunch at the Woodside Village Church, at which the catering by Thrivin’ Edibles was a hit, and then ended the day in front of a full house at Kepler’s, where he spoke about his latest best seller, The Soul of a Horse. Thank you, Joe!

Many exciting developments and accomplishments have been underway this year. PAHS is pleased to announce that it has launched a new advocacy and education program, Humane Planet. Part of this important new program is a certification campaign that will inform the public which eating establishments, caterers, markets, and products have earned the PAHS “Humane Planet Certified” label.

PAHS has also been joined by a new cast of characters! Artist Ilona Hindt created her very first hand puppets just for PAHS: Chuck the Chicken, Bertha the Bunny, Henry the Dog, Carlotta the Cow, Felicity the Cat, and Pettigrew the Pig all help us to teach humane issues to children while evoking empathy

Joe and Benji also became our second official PAHS interview in our own EweTube video library, created just this year. The goal of this video library is to expound on the humane ethic through interviews and conversations with various experts.
