Mid-January – 2011 Humane Planet Multimedia Contest

The details for this contest are being honed now. Come back soon to see the full rules and guidelines for this 2nd annual Humane Planet Film Contest which is now being expanded to include an audio PSA option and is being joined with HEN's established "A Voice for Animals" essay contest.

Help an animal in need today. Spend some extra time appreciating your animal companions.

Kitten season begins. Help control the pet population and have your pet spayed or neutered.

Tuesday, March 22 – The Dorothy Stang Center: Speaker Miranda Loud

Our friend, Dr. Cheryl Joseph, is co-director of The Dorothy Stang Center for Social Justice and Community Engagement, and she is sharing her event with us: Environmental activist, multimedia artist and musician Miranda Loud will speak on "Saving the Elephants, Saving Ourselves: The Role of Arts in Social Change".

APRIL

Tuesday, April 19 – The Dorothy Stang Center Celebrates Earth Week

Our friend, Dr. Cheryl Joseph, is co-director of The Dorothy Stang Center for Social Justice and Community Engagement, and she is sharing her event with us: Alexa La Plante will address the increasingly severe shortage of the vital resource of water both statewide and globally in her presentation, "Water, Water...Nowhere". She'll discuss the issue of water privatization in terms of who benefits and who suffers; the impact of water's dearth on our natural environment and the United Nation's Development Goals for the next half-century. La Plante is a water quality project manager with an international, multidisciplinary consulting firm that specializes in environmental documentation. This topic impacts all life: animals, people and the planet.

Friday, April 22 – Earth Day Celebrates 41 Years!

Every day is Earth Day, truly, but today our focus is heightened!. Do something for the planet and its many creatures today. While you give to them, you will also give to yourself. Now is the time to take a stand, dramatically change habits, shake up and shift stale political or business systems in your community that do not take animals into proper consideration, do something meaningful or even revolutionary….and create a new story. Oh, and have some big fun while your at it!

Easter Sunday, April 24 – Petting Zoo and Madera Brunch Fundraiser

Children will delight in the outdoor petting zoo and Easter Rabbit! Located on the Vista Lawn, the petting zoo will feature rabbits, ducks, chickens, dwarf goats, pot-belly pigs, turkey and sheep from a local family-owned "roaming" farm. Donations will benefit us, the Palo Alto Humane Society, so tell your friends! The Easter Rabbit will greet visitors and be available for photographs, so make sure to bring your camera!

Join PAHS in a food drive to help our community cats (feral cats). PAHS advocates for stray, feral, and abandoned cats by supporting TNR (trap, neuter, release) efforts and veterinary care. We help volunteer feral feeders maintain healthy colonies of community cats. Please help us, and the cats, by contributing food for the ferals.

DECEMBER

Thursday, December 1 – PAHS Holiday Gala at the Aquarius Theatre, downtown Palo Alto

Back by popular demand, Palo Alto Humane Society's "Oh! For the Love of Critters!" once again comes to downtown Palo Alto. Join us at the Aquarius Theatre, on Thursday, December 1, at 7:00 for costumes, community, and cavorting. Starring Disney's 1961 classic feature film Greyfriars Bobby, this celebratory evening will be hosted by Emmy-nominated Hollywood producer Phil Giffin. Greyfriars Bobby is a true tale set in mid-nineteenth century Edinburgh, Scotland, about a little Skye terrier whose story of faithful devotion transcends time. Bagpipes, red carpet, and extra treats make this a must-attend event for all ages. Call the PAHS office for reservations. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the event on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets are a nostalgic $2.00. Don't miss this annual holiday party benefitting the animals helped by the Palo Alto Humane Society.

Shop locally this holiday season to help animals and get to meet some of our local artists! The Palo Alto Humane Society Gift Shop has a variety of personal and household items (starting at $3) created by local artists and groups working to further humane causes. Purchases made directly in our gift shop go to support the PAHS programs (such as our spay and neuter program and CatWorks) that help homeless pets.
